FAQs
From process to people, here's what you need to know before we begin.
How early do I need to consider engaging a relocation logistics expert?
Early engagement gives you the full benefit of planning support, especially for long-term projects where timing and sequencing make a big difference.
Do you supply specialist technicians and engineers for our works?
We source, procure, and manage specialist technicians and engineers as needed. With strong industry connections and an understanding of their field, we ensure you get the right expertise for your works.
How do you minimise disruption to our operations?
We take the time to understand your team, your operational flow, and what's essential to keep your business running smoothly. Then we plan carefully, bring in the right people, and work alongside you to make sure the move is as seamless as possible.
Do you assist businesses outside of NSW?
We have achieved significant success with interstate projects along the East Coast. Our work in regional NSW, QLD, and VIC combines both onsite and online support, ensuring we stay connected with you throughout every stage of your project.
Does Transition offer its services separately?
We understand that every project is unique, and so are your project needs. Our Services are designed to work as a unit and as separate services.
What makes Transition different from a removalist?
Transition plans, manages, and oversees every aspect of your project. By understanding your space and operation, we act as an extension of your team—coordinating staff, contractors, specialists, and engineers to ensure everything is ready for Day 1 with minimal disruption in between. From initial planning to final delivery, we provide a seamless experience. Unlike a removalist, we handle the entire process, not just the items being moved.
How do you relocate a PC2 laboratory?
PC2 laboratory relocation requires careful management of biological containment, equipment validation, and regulatory compliance. Our process begins with a thorough site assessment to understand containment requirements, equipment dependencies, and validation obligations at the new facility. We coordinate directly with OEM technicians for the decommissioning and recommissioning of sensitive instruments, engage accredited validation specialists where required, and manage the full chain of custody for biological materials and specimens. We work to a detailed schedule that ensures your containment classification is restored at the new site before operations resume. Every PC2 relocation we manage is completed to regulatory standard and delivered Day 1 ready.
What is Day 1 readiness in relocation project management?
Day 1 readiness means your organisation can operate normally from the first morning in your new location — no missing equipment, no confused staff, no IT failures, no safety hazards. It is the standard we hold every relocation project to. Achieving Day 1 readiness requires detailed pre-move planning: asset auditing, floor plan mapping, contractor sequencing, IT coordination, staff communications, and a final walk-through checklist. We run an end-of-day debrief on move day and a next-morning review to identify and resolve any outstanding issues before your people arrive for work.
How long does an industrial warehouse relocation take?
The timeline for an industrial or warehouse relocation depends on the scale of your operation, whether the move is a live relocation (business continues trading) or a shutdown, and the complexity of any machinery involved. For smaller warehouses, planning and execution can be completed in 4–8 weeks. Large-scale industrial relocations — such as multi-thousand-pallet warehouse moves or relocations involving heavy plant and machinery — typically require 3–6 months of planning and a staged execution programme. We provide a detailed project timeline during our initial advisory engagement.
What is the difference between a relocation consultant and a removalist?
A removalist transports your belongings from one address to another. A relocation consultant manages the entire process that surrounds that move — planning, risk assessment, asset auditing, contractor selection, change management, and project governance. Think of it this way: a removalist drives the truck. A relocation consultant decides what goes on the truck, in what order, and ensures everything is set up correctly at the other end. For complex relocations — particularly industrial, research, or large commercial moves — the relocation consultant is the reason the removalist knows what to do.
Do you manage change communications for staff during a relocation?
Yes. Change management is one of our five core service pillars. A relocation affects your people as much as it affects your assets — managing the human side is just as important as the logistics. We deliver change management programmes fully in person, 100% online, or through a hybrid approach. Our programmes cover stakeholder mapping, information sessions, site inductions, packing demonstrations, and post-move support. We build a people database and tailor communications to each stakeholder group throughout the project lifecycle.
Can you manage live relocations where the business continues trading?
Yes. Live relocations — where your business continues trading throughout the move — are one of our specialisations. This requires a different approach to planning and sequencing than a standard shutdown relocation. We design the move in stages, ensuring each area of your operation has uninterrupted access to the equipment and resources it needs. We work in close coordination with your operations team to schedule move activity around your business hours and critical operational windows. The Ausgrid warehouse relocation — moving 20,000+ items between Chullora and Somersby while operations continued — is a strong example of this capability.
What is included in a relocation asset audit?
Our asset audit and cost planning service gives you a complete picture of what you have, where it's going, and what the move will cost — before a single item is moved. The audit covers a full inventory of your furniture, equipment, IT, and specialist assets; condition assessment and decommissioning requirements; mapping of assets to your new floor plan; identification of items for disposal, storage, or relocation; and a detailed cost plan for the move itself. This eliminates surprises on move day and gives your budget sign-off process a solid evidential basis.
Do you work with universities and research institutions?
Yes. Education and research institutions are among our most specialised client sectors. We have managed relocations for university faculties, research centres, and specialist teaching facilities — including environments with active laboratory containment requirements and moves conducted while classes and research programmes were still in session. Our University of Newcastle engagement involved relocating the Business and Law Faculty library — over 7,000 items — with student access maintained throughout. We understand the constraints of working within an active educational environment and plan relocations accordingly.
How do you manage machinery relocation safely?
Industrial machinery relocation requires specialist planning around OHS compliance, load engineering, floor loading assessment, and contractor sequencing. We do not move machinery ourselves — we manage the process and the people who do. Our role is to identify the right specialist contractors for each piece of equipment, coordinate their sequencing, manage access and site safety, ensure OEM decommissioning and recommissioning protocols are followed, and confirm the machinery is operational at the new site before sign-off. We have managed machinery relocations across manufacturing, industrial, and research environments throughout Australia.
What is relocation storage optimisation?
Storage optimisation is our service for organisations that want to make better use of their new space before, during, or after a relocation. It analyses how your storage is currently being used, identifies waste and inefficiency, and designs a new storage layout that maximises accessibility, safety, and throughput. This is particularly valuable for warehouse and industrial environments where racking configuration, bin locations, and pick-path efficiency directly affect operating costs. We have mapped storage environments with more than 5,000 bin locations and delivered measurable improvements to space utilisation and picking efficiency.
Do you operate Australia-wide or only in certain states?
We operate Australia-wide. Our directors are based in Sydney, and we have delivered projects across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia. We regularly manage interstate relocations and multi-site programmes. For projects in regional areas or interstate, we engage trusted local contractors and subcontractors as part of our managed project delivery model. The geography of your move does not limit our ability to manage it.
How do I get started with a relocation project?
The best starting point is a relocation advisory engagement. This is a structured discovery process where we visit your current site, understand your business requirements, assess your new location, identify key risks and constraints, and produce a relocation roadmap and indicative cost plan. The advisory engagement gives you everything you need to make informed decisions and take your project to budget approval — without committing to the full move.
