Research & Laboratory Relocations Australia

Specialist laboratory relocation management — PC1/PC2 containment, OEM coordination, validation and chain-of-custody.

Relocating a laboratory is unlike any other kind of move. The consequences of getting it wrong — contamination events, equipment damage, regulatory non-compliance, months of lost research productivity — are too significant to leave to general-purpose contractors with no specialist knowledge.

Transition Consultants has managed complex research and laboratory relocations across Australia. We understand containment protocols, equipment validation requirements, and the strict standards that govern laboratory environments. When you engage us to manage your laboratory relocation, you are working with a team that knows what PC1 and PC2 classifications mean in practice — not just on paper.

Why laboratory relocations require specialist management

Containment classification management

PC1 and PC2 laboratories operate under specific containment protocols. Decommissioning a containment laboratory requires systematic surface decontamination, equipment decontamination, HEPA filter decommissioning, and formal sign-off before the physical move can proceed. Recommissioning at the new site requires the same rigour in reverse — plus independent validation that containment is restored to the required standard.

OEM technician engagement

High-precision analytical instruments, imaging systems, and specialist laboratory equipment cannot be moved by general labourers. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technicians must decommission and recommission this equipment to preserve warranty, calibration status, and operational integrity. We manage all OEM engagements directly, coordinating their involvement within the project programme.

Accredited validation

In regulated research environments operating under GMP, GLP, or institutional accreditation frameworks, equipment and facility validation is a formal requirement after relocation. We coordinate accredited validation specialists as part of the project programme, ensuring your laboratory meets its regulatory obligations at the new site before operations resume.

Chain of custody for biological materials

Live biological materials, specimens, and cultures require careful chain-of-custody management during relocation. We work with your biosafety officer and laboratory management team to plan and document the transfer of biological materials in compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements.

Specialist equipment we have managed

Our laboratory relocation experience covers:

  • Biosafety cabinets (Class II and Class III)
  • Fume hoods and chemical storage systems
  • Ultra-low temperature freezer systems (ULT) and cryogenic storage
  • Analytical balances and precision measurement instruments
  • PCR and sequencing equipment
  • Microscopy and imaging systems
  • Vivarium and animal facility environments
  • Cadaver storage and pathology environments
  • Clinical and diagnostic laboratory environments

Our laboratory relocation process

Advisory and scope definition

A detailed advisory engagement specific to your laboratory environment — documenting all equipment, containment classifications, validation requirements, and OEM engagements required.

Decommissioning programme

Working with your laboratory manager, biosafety officer, and OEM technicians, we develop and manage a formal decommissioning programme sequenced to ensure containment is maintained throughout.

Physical relocation

We engage and coordinate specialist laboratory equipment handlers alongside the general removalist team. The physical move is sequenced to the decommissioning programme.

Recommissioning and validation

We manage the recommissioning sequence, OEM reinstallation, and validation programme. We do not sign off the project until your laboratory is validated, operational, and compliant.

Working with your institution's requirements

Every research institution has its own biosafety committee requirements, ethics obligations, and accreditation frameworks. We work within your institutional requirements — not around them. We engage with your biosafety officer, facilities manager, and research leadership from the earliest advisory stages.

If you are planning a laboratory relocation — whether a small research group move or a full facility decommission and recommission — contact Transition Consultants for an initial conversation. We operate Australia-wide.
