Advisory

Before a single item moves, the most valuable work of any relocation happens: the planning.

Transition Consultants’ relocation advisory service is the foundation of every successful complex relocation we deliver. It is a structured, site-specific engagement that gives your organisation a complete picture of what your move involves, what it will cost, what the risks are, and exactly how to manage them — before you commit to a contractor, a timeline, or a budget.

What is a relocation advisory engagement?

A relocation advisory engagement is a formal discovery and planning process led by our senior consultants. We visit both your current site and your proposed new location, conduct a thorough assessment of your operational requirements, and produce a detailed relocation roadmap tailored to your organisation.

This is not a generic checklist. It is a site-specific, operationally-grounded plan built around your business — your people, your assets, your critical systems, and your risk tolerance.

What the advisory engagement covers

1. Current site assessment

We walk your existing facility in detail, documenting the full scope of assets to be relocated, identifying specialist equipment requiring OEM engagement, assessing access constraints, and understanding your operational dependencies — the things that cannot be disrupted during the move.

2. New site assessment

We assess your new location against your operational requirements: floor loading, access routes, services availability, IT and communications readiness, and compliance requirements for specialist environments such as laboratories or clean rooms.

3. Scope definition

We define precisely what the relocation scope includes and excludes, establish move phasing, and identify items requiring disposal, storage, or specialist handling — before any contractor quotes are sought.

4. Risk identification and mitigation planning

Complex relocations carry real operational risk. We document the risks specific to your environment and build mitigation strategies into the project plan from the outset.

5. Relocation roadmap

We produce a written relocation roadmap: a sequenced project plan covering all phases from contractor procurement through to Day 1 readiness. The roadmap becomes the governing document for your entire relocation programme.

6. Indicative cost plan

We provide an indicative cost plan for the relocation, giving your budget approval process the evidential basis it needs.

Sector-specific advisory

In commercial and office environments, the primary advisory focus is on staff communications planning, IT cut-over scheduling, and Day 1 readiness for customer-facing operations.

In industrial and warehouse environments, we focus on racking configurations, machinery requirements, OHS compliance, and live operational continuity planning.

In research and laboratory environments, the advisory engagement includes a detailed assessment of containment requirements, OEM engagement needs, and validation obligations at the new site.

In education environments, the advisory engagement must work around academic calendars, student access requirements, and the sensitivity of active research programmes.

Advisory as a standalone service

Our advisory service can be engaged as a standalone service — giving you the roadmap and cost plan to take to your board or budget committee, without committing to full project management. Many clients engage us first for advisory, then extend the engagement once internal approvals are in place.
