The situation, uncovering the challenges
Ausgrid were seeking expert planning advice and execution for the ambitious relocation of their warehouse from Chullora to a new 3000sqm facility at Somersby on Sydney’s Central Coast. The main principle guiding the project was to guarantee a seamless transition to the new space while maintaining uninterrupted supply of electricity across NSW. Ausgrid’s service to providing ongoing services to the public was vital.
To ensure a seamless relocation, Transition evaluated all warehouse stock including 5,000 pallets, 400sqm of floor stock (as well as large items such as transformers and substations), and 60 bays of racking for daily accessed pick stock. A comprehensive procedure strategy was developed to guide the relocation process and mitigate potential disruptions.
Our solutions
Given the 24/7 requirement for certain items, a live inventory system was developed in collaboration with Ausgrid’s IT team. This system ensured real-time visibility of stock dispatched from Chullora, its anticipated arrival at the new site, and availability for urgent requirements.
We delivered
- A data driven approach and live inventory system to effectively plan and develop the logistics programme within the actionable timeline
- The physical relocation from Chullora to Somersby over a three-month period, divided into stages to minimise service disruptions
- Focused stakeholder engagement prioritising the key players and influencers integral to our success
The difference we made
The live inventory system plus the dedicated efforts of the project team, ensured that all warehouse stock was tracked, accounted for, and accessible 24/7. This process guaranteed Ausgrid’s commitment to meeting the electricity demands across NSW.
