The situation, uncovering the challenges
Following the successful relocation of their Sydney operation, CMI Electrical re-engaged Transition to deliver the relocation of its Brisbane operation. A mammoth task of moving some 800+ cable reels, ranging in size and weight; some weighing upwards of 4.5 tonne, pallet stock, machinery plus moving the office to newly built warehouse space in Brisbane.
Whilst the new warehouse facility was only 20 minutes away from the existing, the path of travel involved many turns, traffic lights, which is challenging for the size vehicles involved (semi-trailers). The timeframe to deliver the project presented an additional pressure as it was towards the end of the year with operations needing to continue seamlessly.
Our solutions
Engaged as the Industrial Relocation Logistics expert, Transition’s role was to bring together specialist contractors and labour to ensure that CMI had no downtime to their daily operation. Our team’s process focussed on ensuring the careful segregation of the warehouse into sections which defined the relocation stages. From this, a precise logistics programme was developed that was easy for all contractors to follow. Everyone knew what was moving and when, plus the path of travel to ensure the warehouse operation continued “business as usual”.
