The situation, uncovering the challenges
School Infrastructure NSW’s ongoing plan to rebuild public education and foster community access to public schools has led to major projects across the state, including refurbishment works at Cronulla High School.
Transition was engaged to ‘fill the gap’ in facilitating the relocation of staff rooms, staff storerooms and the Administrative Building over 3 main stages, plus provide change expertise to ease staff into their new work environment.
Our solutions
Transition undertook a comprehensive survey of the Administrative Building plus the staff and storerooms of the HSIE, Languages, TAS, Maths, English and CAPA faculties, all of which had their nuances — from Honour Boards and trophies, to long forgotten resources and beloved furniture. Each stage’s audit register allowed for open communication between the builder, and school leadership to clearly identify responsibilities and relocation requirements.
Upon establishing the scopes of work, the Transition team communicated with staff, providing details that the newly built spaces accounted for their needs — thoughtful updates to furniture, storage systems and styles of working. Through regular briefings, staff felt that their voices were heard and were comfortable in letting go of items they may have otherwise held onto ‘just in case’.
We delivered
- Effective channels for stakeholders to collaborate and assist in establishing a relocation scope of works
- A clear and precise scope of required works meant that removalist suppliers were able to provide accurate and budget friendly costings for each stage
- Consistent communication with school leadership and the removalist supplier to ensure that relocation works did not interrupt classes in session
- Staff briefings detailing what to pack, how to pack and when to be packed by, created a sense of ease and ownership for each relocation stage
The difference we made
- Successfully managed and oversaw a complex series of relocation programmes
- Engaged a relocation supplier that was efficient and capable of meeting project requirements for each stage, plus received positive feedback for their delivery
- Regularly liaised with the stakeholders to ensure tasks were on track
- Created a central programming hub to factor in and plan around term dates, bell times, build programmes and staff availability
